Album insights

84 young pianists from around the world competed in the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition. South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho, aged 21, emerged victorious in the finale. Following his win, Deutsche Grammophon is set to release a recital album of Cho's live performance from the final round on November 6. This album marks the start of a strategic partnership between the Warsaw Chopin Institute and Deutsche Grammophon, aimed at supporting talented interpreters of Chopin's music. Over the years, the Chopin Piano Competition has discovered exceptional pianists like Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimmerman, Yundi, and Rafal Blechacz. An 11-CD box set featuring recordings of prize winners from 1927 to 2007 will be released later in 2015. Cho, the competition winner, expressed his delight, calling it a dream come true. He believes that Chopin's music deeply resonates with the essence of humanity and hopes that his recording will touch all who listen to it. An EP containing two tracks from the upcoming album was made available on iTunes starting November 2, 2015.
