Joe Hisaishi
On March 30, 2023, Joe Hisaishi made his brilliant debut in the packed Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, conducting the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.[5] This historic performance is now immortalized on the album 'Joe Hisaishi in Vienna' – the renowned Japanese artist's second release on Deutsche Grammophon.[1] The work includes world premiere recordings of his Symphony No. 2 with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, as well as 'Viola Saga' with the celebrated soloist Antoine Tamestit.[1] The living film music legend Hisaishi, who was originally scheduled to appear in 2024 as part of the 'Cinema:Sound' series, presented not only his contemporary classical music but also pieces from his famous film compositions, including the Symphonic Suite from 'Princess Mononoke'.[2][5] His musical language blends diverse influences – from minimalism and electronic music to Western and Japanese classical traditions – into a distinctive soundscape.
