Pablo Heras-Casado
Praised by the New York Times as "superbly sung and conducted with muscular solidity," the 2023 Bayreuth Festival production of Parsifal is being released in both audio and audiovisual formats. This performance features conductor Pablo Heras-Casado together with singers Andreas Schager, Elīna Garanča, Georg Zeppenfeld, and Derek Welton. Wagner created Parsifal with the express intention that this work should be performed exclusively for the Bayreuth Festspielhaus and nowhere else. In his production, director Jay Scheib references Wagner's correspondence with King Ludwig II, in which the opera is characterized as a "farewell to the world"—a work that grapples with the theme of hope in seemingly hopeless situations. The 4-CD set includes two booklets: one contains information about the work and the 2023 Bayreuth production, along with production photos; the second includes the German libretto with an English translation. The Blu-ray offers three different audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, as well as a booklet with production information and photos. The recording is also available on our 4K Ultra HD video streaming service, STAGE+.
