Joana Mallwitz, the first woman to lead a Berlin orchestra, has released her debut album, "The Kurt Weill Album," with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin on Deutsche Grammophon.
The album focuses on the music of Kurt Weill, whose symphonies "Berliner Symphonie" and "Fantaise symphonique" are artfully interwoven by Mallwitz. The recording is complemented by a version of the satirical composition "Seven Deadly Sins" by Weill and Bertolt Brecht, featuring singer and actress Katharine Mehrling. The album is available on CD and digitally.
