The Coro del Teatro alla Scala is recognized internationally as a symbol of artistic excellence and a leading interpreter of Italian opera. Its distinctive, powerful sound has been shaped by the rigorous guidance of maestros such as Vittore Veneziani, Romano Gandolfi, Roberto Gabbiani, and Bruno Casoni. Since 2021, it has been directed by Alberto Malazzi, a longtime Scala veteran and former assistant to Casoni.
While primarily focused on opera, the chorus is highly versatile, performing repertoire ranging from symphonic and chamber works to polyphony and contemporary compositions, often in world premieres. It has toured extensively across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, frequently showcasing Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, considered the chorus’s signature work.
