Monteverdi: Vespro di Natale – with La Cetra & Andrea Marcon

La Cetra’s Vespro di Natale has become a mainstay of the ensemble’s repertoire in recent years, a festive programme they have both performed extensively and released as an album on Deutsche Grammophon. Devised by the group’s artistic director, Andrea Marcon, it brings together music for Advent and Christmas not only by Claudio Monteverdi, but also his contemporaries – including Giovanni Gabrieli – to transport the listener back to a golden age of church music in early 17th-century Venice. This evocative performance, filmed in Basel’s beautiful Martinskirche in early December 2024, promises to be the perfect musical treat for the festive season.
