"I am the most important creative Viennese musician of the second half of our century," said Friedrich Gulda, and if there’s one thing that’s generally agreed about this Austrian pianist, maverick and provocateur, it’s that he never held back. Gulda went where his genius led him, and on this occasion at the 1990 Munich Klaviersommer, that meant an unbroken 90-minute musical ramble though the heartlands of his classical repertoire: a non-stop musical mystery tour that embraces Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Johann Strauss, Viennese popular songs and – of course – the products of his own inimitable, creative imagination.
