What's an ageing bachelor to do? When Don Pasquale's only heir – his nephew Ernesto – falls for a woman whom Pasquale considers entirely unsuitable, the older man decides it's time for radical action: he will get married and produce his own, more deserving heir. The miracle of Donizetti's final opera buffa is that, amid the sparkling comedy of Ernesto and his beloved Norina getting their own back, the score also includes moments of unforgettable pathos. In this stylish production from Geneva directed by Daniel Slater, bel canto specialist Evelino Pidò conducts a cast led by Simone Alaimo in the title role, with renowned coloratura soprano Patrizia Ciofi as the irrepressible Norina. Prepare to laugh and to cry!
