Herbie Hancock and Friedrich Gulda: two artists who acknowledged no rules but their own, outraging traditionalists in their own genres, but opening new possibilities for the art to which they devoted their lives. The jazz-fusion pioneer Hancock and the classical maverick Gulda were natural partners in spirit, and when they played together, they struck dazzling sparks off each other. In this concert from the 1989 Munich Klaviersommer festival, they do what they do best: combining profound insight and freewheeling imagination in a programme that ranges from Bach to Miles Davis as well as Gulda’s own utterly individual creations.
