Verdi Gala in Parma: Italian Opera Highlights with Zubin Mehta

From Nabucco to Falstaff

Production Date: 11/03/2001

Of Giuseppe Verdi's 28 stage works, many still delight opera audiences around the world. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Verdi's death, a gala was held in Parma in 2001 under the direction of Zubin Mehta, presenting some of the most beautiful passages from the works of the opera composer. From his third opera, Nabucco, to the ingenious farewell work, Falstaff, we see Verdi retain his inexhaustible wealth of melodies, while developing ever more stringent dramaturgical forms at the same time. Ruggero Raimondi, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, among others, sing in this recording to the sounds of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – legends of Verdi interpretation even during his lifetime.
