In 1980, the documentary "From Mao to Mozart" examined the beginnings of a Western-oriented musical culture in China. This concert from 26 years later – from the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing – shows how rapidly things have developed since. The year 2006 was the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, and the programme is dedicated to the great Austrian composer, performed by a fully Chinese line-up of soloists, conductor and orchestra. After the vibrant 25th Symphony and excerpts from operas, the global classical superstar Lang Lang takes the stage for Mozart's expansive 24th Piano Concerto – and several encores.
