The Munich Klaviersommer was only in its second year when the extraordinary meeting between Friedrich Gulda – the festival's initiator – and Chick Corea took place, resulting in a concert that perfectly encapsulated the festival's genre-redefining, boundary-breaking ethos. Each pianist performed a set alone, before coming together for the third set, and here Gulda kicks proceedings off with music by Mozart – his celebrated Sonata in C Major, K. 330 – nestled in with music by Gulda himself and culminating in a playful, virtuosic rendition of Die Reblaus, a song made famous by Austrian actor Hans Moser.
