In the first performance at their new London home, the Monteverdi Choir is joined by Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique to perform one of Berlioz's most substantial works, under the direction of their founder, Sir John Eliot Gardiner. L'Enfance du Christ is a three-part oratorio that traces the story of King Herod and the flight of Mary, Joseph and Jesus into Egypt. Best known for the Shepherds' Farewell, the beautiful work, completed in 1854, saw Berlioz finding a more gentle musical style to fit the subject matter. Trinity Boys Choir and superb international soloists complete the line-up for this special festive event, filmed at London's famous St Martin-in-the-Fields.
