The four superbly-worked movements and colossal final Chaconne of Bach's D minor Partita for solo violin have long fascinated performers on other instruments – with arrangements of the Chaconne, in particular, having a long and glorious pedigree. With teachers including Andrès Segovia and the harpsichordist Ralph Kirkpatrick, the American guitar virtuoso Eliot Fisk is deeply grounded in classical tradition, and his transcription of the Partita is a masterly re-imagination of this towering work; perfectly tailored to the guitar, yet profoundly respectful of Bach's genius.
