María Dueñas Spanish violinist María Dueñas has released her second album on Deutsche Grammophon, which focuses on the famous 24 Caprices by Niccolò Paganini. These pieces are among the most technically demanding works for the violin. The album complements the Caprices with selected later compositions, all influenced by Paganini's style. Dueñas also interprets works by Berlioz, Kreisler, and Gabriela Ortiz. She emphasizes that the 24 Caprices represent a significant chapter for every violinist and that the word "caprice" is inextricably linked to Paganini, even though many other caprices exist—from Saint-Saëns' Rondo capriccioso to contemporary pieces such as those by Cervelló.
The album is available digitally, on CD, and on vinyl. Dueñas's aim in compiling the album was to capture the diversity of the musical landscape in brief musical moments.
