Album insights

Celebrating the remarkable event nearly 100 years after its American premiere by the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1916, the orchestra, led by the current chief conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, marked the occasion with a special anniversary performance. The recording of this concert, now available on audio discs, vividly demonstrates Nézet-Séguin's exceptional talent as one of the prominent interpreters of Mahler in our time. Accompanying him and the impressive Philadelphia Orchestra are a distinguished ensemble of soloists (Angela Meade, Erin Wall, Lisette Oropesa, Elizabeth Bishop, Mihoko Fujimura, Anthony Dean Griffey, Markus Werba, John Relyea) and three choirs (Westminster Symphonic Choir, The Choral Arts Society of Washington, The American Boychoir).
