For András Schiff, Johann Sebastian Bach embodies the "pinnacle of European music history". No wonder that the composer's works allow us to hear Schiff's music-making to the greatest advantage, as here in this performance from the 2010 Bach Festival in Leipzig, where Bach worked for a long time as Thomaskantor. The Hungarian pianist performs the six French Suites, composed between 1722 and 1724 and combining breathtaking compositional skill with with dance-like grace. To conclude the programme, Schiff plays both the Overture in the French Style and the Italian Concerto, two works published together in 1735.
