Lisa Batiashvili & Friends: Schubert's "Trout" Quintet

Lisa Batiashvili might be one of the world's great reigning violin virtuosos, but she is also a passionate chamber musician. At Schlosshotel Elmau – a centre for performances of classical music at the highest level since its opening in 1916 – the Georgian violinist joins some familiar instrumentalists for performance of Schubert's Trout Quintet, whose fourth movement is a set of variations on Schubert's famous song of the same name. This predominantly sunny and cheerful – and deceptively technically demanding – work cannot help but lift the spirits, especially in such a commanding performance as this.
