Andris Nelsons and the Saito Kinen Orchestra: Mahler Symphony No. 9

For this very special concert celebrating 30 years of the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in 2022, Andris Nelsons conducts the Saito Kinen Orchestra – the orchestra that is formed afresh each year for the festival – in a performance of Mahler's valedictory Ninth Symphony. Mahler's work, the final symphony that he completed, was the piece that Ozawa himself chose for the concert that drew to an end his 29-year tenure as music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, of which Nelsons has been music director since 2014 – and it proved a moving choice for this memorable concert.
