Alfonso Maria de Liguori (1696–1787), also known as Saint Alphonsus Liguori, was a prominent Italian Catholic bishop, theologian, and founder of the Redemptorist order. He is revered as a doctor of the church for his significant contributions to moral theology and spiritual writing. Beyond his religious and philosophical impact, he was also a composer and poet.

Key Achievements and Legacy

Alfonso Maria de Liguori founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) in 1732. He wrote extensively, publishing works on moral theology, devotional practice, and spirituality. Appointed Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti in 1762, he was canonized as a saint in 1839. Today, he is recognized as a doctor of the church and patron saint of moralists and confessors.

Alfonso Maria de Liguori's creative output encompassed both music and literature.
