The Song Is You

The Song Is You

Enrico Rava, Fred Hersch

Duration43 Min

Their collaboration is being celebrated as an extraordinary encounter between two jazz greats. Trieste-born trumpeter Enrico Rava and Cincinnati pianist Fred Hersch share a deep passion for tradition and a pronounced sensitivity for melodic creativity. In the Auditorio Stelio Molo RSI in Lugano, renowned for its exceptional acoustics, Rava on flugelhorn and Hersch on piano impressively express their musical connection. Together they interpret well-known standards such as Jerome Kern's "The Song Is You," Thelonious Monk's "Mysterioso" and "'Round Midnight," Jobim's "Retrato em Branco e Preto," and George Bassman's "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You." In addition to free improvisations, they also present their own compositions: Fred Hersch contributes "Child's Song," and Enrico Rava "The Trial." Rava, who has been associated with ECM for almost five decades, collaborates here with Hersch, for whom "The Song Is You" is his first album on this label. The album was produced by Manfred Eicher in November 2021.
