Frances-Marie Uitti and Paul Griffiths appear together for the first time on an ECM release, marking their debut with the label. Uitti, a cellist known for her innovative playing techniques, has developed numerous new methods for her instrument. Many important figures in contemporary classical music, including Cage, Scelsi, Carter, Nono, Xenakis, and Kurtág, have collaborated with her. In addition to her work as a composer, she is an inspired performer and one of the leading improvisers. Paul Griffiths, who wrote the libretto for Elliott Carter's opera "What Next?", is considered one of the most renowned music writers and has also made a name for himself as a novelist. He was awarded the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for his novel "Myself and Marco Polo." The recording "There is still time" defies easy categorization, yet captivates with its unique character; the included "Scenes for Speaking Voice and Cello" are well worth hearing.
