The Taizé Community was founded in 1940 by Brother Roger, originally from Switzerland. During the Second World War, it offered refuge to displaced persons. Today, the ecumenical brotherhood comprises approximately 100 members from 30 different countries and belonging to various Christian denominations. Brother Roger, whose 100th birthday would have been in 2015, left behind a legacy already spanning 75 years. Over the years, Taizé has become a significant destination for young pilgrims and has also developed its own unique musical identity.
