Album insights

Lisa Batiashvili, an esteemed violinist originally from Tbilisi, Georgia, has garnered immense admiration and respect from fellow musicians worldwide. She currently resides in France after spending 15 years in Munich, where she studied at the music conservatory under Ana Chumachenko, following her earlier education with Mark Lubotsky in Hamburg. Notably, at just 16 years old, she secured the second prize at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 1995, the youngest participant ever. Identified as one of BBC's pioneering "New Generation Artists," she made a striking debut at the BBC Proms in 2001, lauded by BBC Music Magazine as the "most outstanding debut of the year." Batiashvili received the prestigious Leonard Bernstein Award from the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in 2003 and the Beethoven-Ring from the Bonn Beethoven Festival three years later. Her recording of Sibelius and Magnus Lindberg's Violin Concertos in 2008 earned her accolades like the MIDEM Classical Award and the Choc du monde de la musique, along with the ECHO Prize for "Emerging Artist of the Year." The gifted artist was honored with the esteemed international prize from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena in 2009. Presently, she unveils her debut album "Echoes of Time" under Deutsche Grammophon this year, slated for release on May 20th. The album is a tribute to composers whose lives, akin to the violinist's, were profoundly shaped by political events or the Soviet Union.
