Jóhann Jóhannsson
The world premiere of the string quartet "12 Conversations with Thilo Heinzmann" by Icelandic composer Jóhannsson was released by Deutsche Grammophon the day after what would have been his 50th birthday. The work emerged from a four-year artistic exchange between Jóhannsson and the Berlin-based painter Thilo Heinzmann, during which profound conversations took place about art, politics, and personal experiences. Jóhannsson, known for his innovative approach to combining music with other art forms, created a unique connection between music and visual art with this twelve-part work. The essence of his sound is revealed in the purist string quartet composition, whose electronic music background remains discernible despite being written entirely for string quartet. After his death, the work was recorded by the Belgian Echo Collective, who interpret Jóhannsson's musical legacy.
