Early Music Pioneer Trevor Pinnock
The renowned early music pioneer Trevor Pinnock presents his latest recording of the first part of the Well-Tempered Clavier, revealing his profound, lifelong enthusiasm for Bach's contrapuntal masterpiece. For the first time since 1983, Deutsche Grammophon is releasing a new recording of this work on the harpsichord. "I could no longer postpone recording these preludes and fugues—they are an essential part of my being," says Pinnock. The highest degree of authenticity is achieved through the use of the historical concert pitch common in Köthen during Bach's time, as well as through a harpsichord with which Pinnock has been intimately familiar for decades. Pinnock believes the challenge lies in coaxing music from this simple instrument that possesses both language and soul. His knowledgeable and engaging interpretation of Bach's artful work promises a unique listening experience.
