Album insights
Raphaël Feuillâtre, a young and successful guitarist, has been hailed as "one of the most exciting concert guitarists of his generation" by Guitar Salon International and praised by Classical Guitar as "a fantastically versatile and sensitive interpreter." In 2018, he achieved international acclaim by winning the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America competition. Making his debut on Deutsche Grammophon, Feuillâtre aims to share his passion for Baroque music. His album, "Visages baroques" (Baroque Faces), features works by J.S. Bach and his French contemporaries Forqueray, Rameau, Royer, and Duphly. Feuillâtre explains that the album title captures the diverse qualities that each piece acquires through his interpretation and the myriad aspects of the guitar revealed in the music selection. The repertoire includes two major works by Bach - the Concerto in D Major BWV 972 and the Partita No. 1 BWV 825 - along with six French pieces. Enhancing the collection are two shorter Bach pieces, the Prelude in C Major and the Gavotte en rondeau from his Partita for Solo Violin in E Major. Noteworthy is the expansion of the entire repertoire through guitar transcriptions, some of which have never been published before.
