Cristian Măcelaru
The esteemed conductor Cristian Măcelaru, director of the George Enescu Festival, presents, together with the Orchestre National de France, impressive interpretations of George Enescu's symphonic compositions. In contrast to his well-known 'Romanian Rhapsodies,' Enescu's three symphonies, often unjustly overlooked, lie at the heart of his oeuvre. A gifted composer and violinist, Enescu taught renowned musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin and divided his time between Romania, the United States, and France. His works bear the unmistakable imprint of his homeland. Pablo Casals hailed him as 'the most important musician since Mozart.' The five compositions presented on this album reflect Enescu's artistic development throughout the 20th century. A musical journey through Enescu's oeuvre leads from the youthful vivacity of the First Romanian Rhapsody to the profound, philosophical Third Symphony – an insight into the work of my musical role model. The third movement, 'Vif et vigoureux', from Enescu's First Symphony is available to listen to in advance. The album will be released digitally and as a 3-CD collection on April 12.
The album will be released on April 12th.
