Joe Zawinul and Weather Update

Combine the Vienna Conservatoire training of Austrian jazz pianist Joe Zawinul with some of the most potent – and distinctive – voices in postwar American jazz and the result was Weather Update and Weather Update: legendary free-form fusion outfits that redrew the boundaries of jazz in the 1970s and 1980s, winning multiple Down Beat awards. This live 1986 set from Munich's Philharmonie am Gasteig finds them at the very end of their hugely influential journey, with Zawinul leading a late-period line-up including Peter Erskine (drums) and Victor Bailey (bass) in numbers from what would be the very last Weather Report album, This is This!
