Seiji Ozawa at the Matsumoto Festival: Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 2 & 7

Saito Kinen Orchestra

Production Date: 06/09/2015
83 Min

In these performances, filmed in 2015 and 2016 at the festival he founded in 1992, Seiji Ozawa conducts two favourite Beethoven symphonies: the high-spirited, Haydnesque Symphony No. 2 and the grandly conceived Seventh. Ozawa conducts the Saito Kinen Orchestra, which traces its history back to 1984 and forms afresh each year to play at the festival. The membership of the celebrated orchestra is drawn in large part from former students of the Toho Gakuen School of Music, founded by the late Hideo Saito, as well as including many other outstanding Japanese musicians.
