In the company of the Berliner Philharmoniker and music director Kirill Petrenko, Daniil Trifonov takes on one of the great peaks of Romantic piano repertoire: Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B Flat Major. Though symphonic in scale, the work reveals Brahm's intimate, chamber-like sensibilities, especially in the exquisite Andante, featuring a celebrated cello solo. It's musical and technical challenges are formidable, but few today are better equipped to face them than Trifonov, a musician celebrated for his compelling mixture of virtuosity and musicality. This performance was recorded as part of the Berliner Philharmoniker's New Year's Eve concert 2024.
