Pinchas Zukerman

Pinchas Zukerman

Violin, Viola, Conductor

One of the finest string players of his generation, Zukerman has maintained a career at the highest level for over 60 years. Born in Tel Aviv, he moved to New York so he could study at Juilliard where he worked with Isaac Stern and Ivan Galamian, making his debut in the city in 1963. Part of that inspirational generation of musicians – and friends – that included Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, Jacqueline du Pré and Zubin Mehta, Zukerman has aways been a keen chamber musician, alongside his concerto work, and – since 1970 – his conducting. He has headed up numerous summer festivals and held conducting positions with the St Paul CO in Minneapolis and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa. His recorded catalogue is extensive, embracing most of the great violin concertos and a large amount of chamber music, often with Daniel Barenboim as a partner. He is a keen and respected teacher, giving masterclasses the world over.
