Featured Artist: Mel Bonis

Mélanie Hélène Bonis (1858–1937), known professionally as Mel Bonis, was a prolific French late-Romantic composer who created over 300 works spanning piano, chamber, orchestral, choral, and vocal genres. Her rich harmonic language and rhythmic ingenuity highlight influences from Franck, Fauré, and Saint-Saëns, blending impressionistic and orientalist colors for a unique and expressive sound. Despite facing challenges as a woman in classical music, Bonis garnered the support of publishers Alphonse Leduc, Max Eschig, and Maurice Senart, which led to more regular composition, and she belonged to the Société des Compositeurs.
