Joe Hisaishi made a triumphant debut at the sold-out Vienna Musikverein on March 30, 2023, conducting a program featuring his own compositions. This performance has been released on an album titled "Joe Hisaishi in Vienna," marking his second album for Deutsche Grammophon. The album includes world premiere recordings of two of his works, Symphony No. 2 with the Vienna Symphony and Viola Saga featuring soloist Antoine Tamestit. While renowned for his film scores, Hisaishi has also crafted a vast collection of contemporary classical pieces over the years. Influenced by minimalism, experimental compositions of colleagues like Philip Glass and Steve Reich, as well as Japan's musical heritage and Western classical traditions, his work showcases a rich blend of influences.
