Bobo Stenson Trio

Duration49 Min

The Bobo Stenson Trio impresses with the versatility with which it integrates diverse musical styles and a multifaceted repertoire into its distinctive sound. This ability has become the ensemble's unmistakable hallmark and has garnered acclaim, including from The New York Times, which praised the pianist for his "sublime piano trio recordings" that are "devoid of exaggeration and imbued with long, improvised passages and vibrancy." On the album "Sphere," the musicians demonstrate their exceptional, fluid chemistry as they interpret both their own compositions and works by Scandinavian composers. Over decades, the Swedish pianist has cultivated a unique musical blend, shaped by his long-standing collaboration with ECM and producer Manfred Eicher. Eicher, Bobo emphasizes, understands how to "bring out the best in the musicians" and was also responsible for producing the recording. Since the 2008 album "Cantando," Anders Jormin (double bass) and Jon Fält (drums) have been at Bobo's side, forming an ideal team for his sensitive playing style and creative drive. Bobo emphasizes that the trio doesn't adhere to a fixed style and that the music always evolves in the moment – therein lies the essence and the joy of making music together anew each time. The recording was made in April 2022 at the Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano.
