Album insights

"Émigré" is an oratorio in two acts with music by Aaron Zigman, diligently developed over five years, shedding light on a lesser-known chapter of World War II: the sheltering of Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe by the residents of Shanghai in the 1930s. It spins a tale of kindness and love prevailing over destructive historical forces. The libretto, penned by Pulitzer Prize winner Mark Campbell with texts by Brock Walsh, showcases the heart of the narrative. This is the fifth project emerging from a productive collaboration between the DG, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and Maestro Long Yu. While initially released digitally earlier this year, "Émigré" is now available on CD for all to enjoy.
