Nobuyuki Tsujii

The highly anticipated debut album by renowned Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii is now available on Deutsche Grammophon. At its heart is Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata, a piece that demands the utmost both technically and physically due to its extraordinary length. Alongside this major work, Tsujii also performs Liszt's piano arrangement of the song cycle "An die ferne Geliebte," Opus 98. The album is available both digitally and on CD and includes, as a special bonus, the second movement of Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 "Pathétique." Although blind, Tsujii plays all the works from memory and emphasizes how difficult it is to maintain concentration during such a long piece. Tsujii pays tribute to his personal connection with Beethoven, who, despite his deafness, created outstanding and demanding compositions like this sonata, with deep respect and great devotion.
