British-American sitar player Anoushka Shankar released her studio album 'Traveller' on Deutsche Grammophon in October 2011. Produced by Javier Limón, the work explores the possible Indian origins of Spanish flamenco. Shankar first discovered flamenco as a teenager during a trip to Spain, where she was captivated by performances in a small flamenco bar. The album is based on the idea that both musical forms express the same core essence—in Indian music, it is called 'spirituality,' in flamenco, 'passion.' For the recording, she traveled to Spain and collaborated with flamenco producer and guitarist Javier Limón. In early studio sessions, they sat facing each other with their instruments and explored the musical dialogue between them. 'Traveller' traces the intellectual connections between these two highly developed musical expressions from their origins to the present day. The album was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
