The Philadelphia Orchestra and its chief conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin are launching a series of symphonic works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, beginning with the performance of his 1st Symphony and Symphonic Dances. In the upcoming celebratory year of 2023 (his 150th birthday), Rachmaninoff's works will be fully presented. There has always been a special connection between Rachmaninoff's music and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Rachmaninoff entrusted the orchestra with premiering some of his compositions, including the Symphonic Dances dedicated to the orchestra and its former chief conductor. The album cleverly pairs the first Symphony with this later Rachmaninoff piece, interweaving themes from the early work. This new symphonic series follows the orchestra's acclaimed recordings of piano and orchestral works with Daniil Trifonov, notably the Grammy-nominated "Destination Rachmaninov – Arrival."
