Album insights
In her highly anticipated new album, three-time GRAMMY winner Hilary Hahn pays tribute to the rich cultural heritage of a significant city in her musical journey: Paris. Characterized by expression and emotions, Paris serves as a profound source of inspiration for both performer and listener, according to Hahn. This homage stems from her time as artist-in-residence at OPRF during the 2018/19 season. Following a performance of Rautavaara’s Violin Concerto with Mikko Franck in 2014, Hahn inquired about the possibility of another composition by Franck's friend and compatriot. Despite the composer's ailing health, a nearly complete composition for violin and orchestra was later discovered after Rautavaara's passing in 2016. The poignant recording of Deux Sérénades, a world premiere, as well as works by Ernest Chausson and Sergei Prokofiev, was captured during a moving concert in February 2019, adding a fresh chapter to Rautavaara's legacy.
