Daniel Barenboim
After witnessing a television broadcast of Lisa Batiashvili playing Sibelius' Violin Concerto, Daniel Barenboim became determined to perform this work with her one day. This dream came true in 2016 when they performed together before 40,000 people in Berlin. With the technically demanding Sibelius Concerto, Batiashvili demonstrated her abilities as an internationally acclaimed violinist. The Georgian-born, Germany-based artist also interpreted Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto under Barenboim's direction. This recording presents Tchaikovsky's composition in its most original form—without external influences—as an authentic and profoundly human portrayal of pain. Both artists placed particular emphasis on structural clarity to underscore the emotional climaxes of the work without sacrificing its depth of feeling. With its warm sound, the Staatskapelle Berlin provided a solid foundation for Batiashvili's virtuosic playing, thus completing the recording.
The Berlin State Opera Orchestra provided a solid foundation for Batiashvili's virtuoso playing and thus completed the recording.
