Daniel Barenboim Daniel Barenboim is one of the most important musicians of our time.
The internationally acclaimed pianist and conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin also founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Barenboim recently presented a project that is particularly close to his heart: Together with the Belgian piano maker Chris Maene, he developed his own concert grand piano. This instrument is characterized by innovative details, such as parallel string arrangement, hammers and strings made of yellow brass, and a special action. This design results in a particularly clear and pure sound. Barenboim was so convinced by the tonal qualities of his new piano that he immediately recorded works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt on it. In doing so, he set a precedent for a groundbreaking development in modern piano making.
