Camille Thomas

The Franco-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon in April 2017 – the first cellist to do so on the yellow label in four decades. Her debut album, released in autumn 2017, presents lyrical compositions of the French Romantic era. It includes Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1, Op. 33, as well as "Les larmes de Jacqueline" from Offenbach's Harmonies des bois, Op. 76. The recording was made with the Orchestre National de Lille under the direction of Alexandre Bloch and features guest appearances by tenor Rolando Villazón and violinist Nemanja Radulovic. Critics reacted extremely positively to her playing, with Gramophone poetically comparing her sound to hot chocolate: delicious, intense, and comforting.
