Daniel Heide.
Schubert's timeless song cycle 'Die schöne Müllerin' (The Fair Maid of the Mill) is released as a debut album on Deutsche Grammophon, performed by the trilingual baritone from South Tyrol, André Schuen, together with pianist Daniel Heide. The artist, originally from the Ladin-speaking village of La Val, is fluent in Ladin, Italian, and German – a linguistic diversity that is also reflected in his singing. The long-standing collaboration of more than a decade between Schuen and Heide lends their interpretation a special intimacy that is palpable in every note and serves the natural expression so crucial to this work. 'With increasing age, voices usually become darker and heavier,' explains Schuen, justifying his decision to record early in his career. In his youth, he can still bring the bright tonal colors that, for him, are essential to understanding the work. Bavarian Radio praises: 'Without psychological contrivances or overly obvious signposts, Schuen and the outstanding Daniel Heide create a profound, never trivial interpretation of Schubert.'
