Emily D'Angelo

Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D'Angelo announces her second solo album, "freezing," which features seventeen tracks from various genres, including art song and folk. The album presents a diverse selection of music from the past five decades, with compositions by Philip Glass, Henry Purcell, John Dowland, Zoltán Kodály, Rebecca Clarke, and W.C. Handy, as well as contemporary works by Cecilia Livingston, Jeanine Tesori, Randy Newman, "Adrian Ira" Kramer, and the American band Ween. On thirteen tracks, D'Angelo is accompanied by Sophia Muñoz on piano, along with Bruno Helstroffer on electric guitar and Jonas Niederstadt on bass guitar, synthesizer, and drums. The artful interplay of her rich voice with the sophisticated arrangements creates an atmospheric work that harmoniously unites these diverse musical pieces. According to D'Angelo himself, with this album he tries to give the individual pieces room to develop while simultaneously illustrating the musical evolution over time.
