Friedrich Gulda: A Portrait - "So What?!"
Performance date: 01/01/2002
Friedrich Gulda was both one of the great pianists of the 20th century and an "enfant terrible" of the classical establishment – a figure, either way, whom it was impossible to ignore. This comprehensive posthumous portrait of Gulda shows his many sides, interweaving archive material dating from his earliest youth right up to his last months into an overall picture which can rightly be regarded as a worthy legacy of a fascinating artist. Respecting Gulda’s ban on a public obituary, the film abstains entirely from any third-party commentaries. The entire narration of the portrait originates from Gulda, either from himself directly, or narrated by his "alter ego" Ulrich Mühe.
