Ahmad Jamal Trio

Ahmad Jamal brings his trio to Munich’s Philharmonie im Gasteig in 1993 with John Heard and Yoron Israel, a group attuned to space and understatement. Standards by Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Victor Young and Jimmy McHugh meet Jamal’s own "Bellows", "Acorn" and "Swahililand". "All the Things You Are" is pared back to its harmonic frame; "Chloe" carries a muted, nocturnal colour; "My Foolish Heart" remains poised and unhurried. Heard’s centred bass and Israel’s precise cymbal work sharpen the interplay as Jamal directs from the keyboard, measuring dynamics and silence with exact control.
