Contemporary

Contemporary music, in the literal sense, builds on the different, sometimes contradictory, movements of "new music" that was made in the 20th century, which includes modernist, postmodern, neoromantic, and pluralist music. Music today is incredibly diverse, drawing on an almost limitless array of sources. The main characteristic is that the composers and musicians are contemporaries. This includes influential composers of various styles, such as John Adams, Andrew Norman, Sofia Gubaidulina, Thomas Adès, but also Max Richter, Joep Beving and Hildur Guðnadóttir.
