AboutDario Marianelli

On January 5, 2018, the traditional label Deutsche Grammophon will release the soundtrack for the film "Darkest Hour," which also premieres in January 2018. The original score, composed specifically for the film by Dario Marinelli (known for "Pride & Prejudice" and "Anna Karenina," among others), captures the tense atmosphere in Great Britain during World War II and significantly contributes to the electrifying mood of the historical drama by British director Joe Wright. A large portion of the tracks feature Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, who achieved great success in 2017 with his debut album "Philip Glass – Piano Works" on Deutsche Grammophon. Wright's film tells the story of the difficult early days of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman), who is faced with the choice of negotiating with the German Nazi regime or standing by his ideals. The film will be widely released in cinemas worldwide, especially in Germany, and is already considered a promising Oscar contender after a successful launch in the USA in November 2017.
