Album insights

Franco Fagioli, one of the most virtuosic countertenors today, has recently signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, making history as their first countertenor. He will star as Orfeo in a new recording of Gluck's opera "Orfeo ed Euridice." This recording marks several firsts, including Fagioli's debut in a complete opera where he takes on the title role. Notably, "Orfeo ed Euridice" will be released for the first time in its original Italian version and performed on historical instruments under Deutsche Grammophon/Archiv. Fagioli's exquisite, sensitive timbre and flawless technique spanning three octaves never cease to amaze listeners. His rendition of the beloved aria "Che farò senza Euridice" showcases his clarity in high notes and embellishments using a gentle vibrato, undoubtedly a standout moment in this recording. Collaborating with sopranos Malin Hartelius and Emmanuelle de Negri, alongside the Insula Orchestra conducted by Laurence Equilbey, the result is a beautiful double-CD opera recording. Additionally, an extra CD features all the highlights from this remarkable production.
